Could your prayers use some fresh kindling and fuel this week? There’s plenty to be found in Psalm 90, “A Prayer of Moses, the Man of God.”
There’s kindling for PRAISE. In fact, Psalm 90:2 could be a great place to begin each one of your prayers this week:
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
There’s much needed PERSPECTIVE when we pray and then just sit for a few quiet moments to meditate on this ancient truth:
For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night. (90:4)
That perspective ought to humble us and make us PENITENT in the sight of such an awesome, holy God:
You have set our iniquities before you,
our secret sins in the light of your presence. (90:8)
But we’re not left to drown in the flood of our selfish iniquities and secret sins. What a blessing to make the PETITIONS scattered throughout Psalm 90 personal!
Lord, please be my dwelling place–
my rock of refuge–today. (90:1)
Teach me to number my days
that I may get a heart of wisdom. (90:12)
Satisfy me in the morning with your steadfast love,
that I may rejoice and be glad all my days. (90:14)
Let the favor of the Lord my God be upon me,
and establish the work of my hands. (90:17)
If your heart is running on fumes today, Psalm 90 is a God-given oasis worth visiting over and over again this week.
